The Deputy Superintendent for the Protection of Personal Data of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, Ms. Maria Claudia Claviedes Mejía, participated in the GSMA Ministerial Programme at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain from February 26 – 28, 2018.

The Ministerial Programme at Mobile World Congress is an influential forum offering senior government representatives an opportunity to expand their knowledge, debate current issues and engage with mobile industry experts on regulatory and policy topics.

This year, the Ministerial Programme brought together senior government and industry leaders to explore how mobile connectivity is driving innovation and growth across multiple sectors, and exchange ideas on the policies needed to create a better future. This year the Programme was structured around three key themes: Creating a better future, modernizing policy for the digital era and realizing the power of mobile.

The participation of Ms. Claviedes was of great importance in the debates about the principle advances and tendencies on public policies in the field of mobile communications, mainly in privacy and personal data protection. Hence, through this Programme Ms. Claviedes shared the Colombian experience in the field and explained the challenges that the SIC will face in the coming years to adequately protect privacy and personal information on mobile communications.
