The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), as National Authority for Consumer Protection, opened an investigation against 14 companies for alleged misleading advertising, which included cleaning products that claimed benefits regarding COVID- 19. In the advertising of those products, benefits were attributed such as: killing, eliminating and preventing the virus, making it disappear and even reducing the consequences of the disease.

The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) carried out inspections in different webpages, media and social networks, in order to review the messages transmitted to consumers on the cleaning products advertising and try to find the alleged messages about the attributed benefits against COVID -19.
After evaluating the content, the SIC decided to opened an investigation against those 14 companies for the alleged misleading advertising and/or because apparently they did not comply with related orders issued by this authority. In one of the cases, the investigation was opened due to the lack of guarantee of product safety, as apparently they did not have a health authority registration.
