The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), as National Authority for Consumer Protection, imposed a fine of USD $186.000 against MATTEL COLOMBIA, after having concluded that this company violated the right of consumers by not informing them about the risk associated with the product “ROCK 'N PLAY SLEEPER”, having found irregularities during the security campaign promoted due the death of 30 children in United States.
In addition, it was found that during the campaign, MATTEL COLOMBIA in some cases, required consumers to keep the product for at least 6 months, all in contradiction of Decree 1074 of 2015 and the consumer safety regulations.
During the investigation it was also proven that MATTEL COLOMBIA, as part of the security campaign, asked some consumers to present the purchase receipt of the product as a previous condition to access the security campaign, imposing an additional requirement, in contradiction to their rights.
