Through Resolution No. 92696 of December 21st, 2018, the SIC's Directorate of Investigation for the Protection of Communications Services Users, ordered VIRGIN MOBILE COLOMBIA S.A.S. to immediately abstain from issuing and disseminating advertising campaigns (printed, audio-visual, external and/or digital), which could violate fundamental rights, such as human dignity, equality, and discrimination against women and transmit messages that promote illegal behaviour.
This decision was made in order to stop thier "WhatsApp UNLIMITED new chat bag" advertisement, which used language and images that suggested violent scenarios regarding sex; it reinforced sexist stereotypes and advocated illegal behaviour that is counter to Colombian public order and morality.
The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce warned VIRGIN MOBILE COLOMBIA S.A.S. that failure to comply with the order will result in the imposition of successive fines of up to one THOUSAND (COP$1.000) Colombian monthly minimum wages.
